Centuries we wasted, With our hands held to the sky, Praying to the gods we created, Drawn through distant points of light. Still we wait for an answer from the night. Still we wait with an ear to the stars. We stepped out into the aether, To build a city in the stars, Sent machines into the heavens, To search the frozen lakes on Mars. With satellites we reached out, Scanning all across the sky, Searching for a life within the dark, Around those distant points of light. Still we wait for an answer from the night. Still we wait with an ear to the stars. Reaching out beyond our grasp, Confined to the Earth, With an ear to the stars. Stretching out into the void, Bound to the Earth, With an ear to the stars. Still we wait for an answer from the night. Still we wait with an ear to the stars. Reaching out beyond our grasp, Confined to the Earth, With an ear to the stars. Stretching out into the void, Bound to the Earth, With an ear to the stars.

Signals 06:27
All systems clear. Scans complete. Sift through the data, on the screen. Distant reflection traveling, Through the void echoing. [Satellite scan at 03:00 completed. All systems normal] All systems clear. Scans complete. Sift through the unknown, in front of me. Connect the patterns and find the key. Reveal a message transmitting. [Satellite scan at 04:00 completed. Repeating transient radio pulse detected.] Patterns form before my eyes, From chaos signs materialize. Those guiding lights, under veil of night, From distant signals, burst to life. [Exporting pulsar survey data. Please wait. Exporting data. Please wait.] [Satellite scan at 04:00 completed. Repeating transient radio pulse detected. Exporting pulsar survey data. Please wait.] Patterns form before my eyes, From chaos signs materialize. Those guiding lights, under veil of night, From distant signals, burst to life. Burst to life, before my eyes. From chaos signs materialize. I watch in awe as patterns form, Into signals hailing from the sky. Burst to life, before my eyes. (Patterns form before my eyes) From chaos signs materialize. From chaos signs materialize) I watch in awe as patterns form, (Those guiding lights, under veil of night) Into signals hailing from the sky. (From distant signals, burst to life)

We are spiraling out of control, Drifting through space, Bound by our momentum, Directionless. On the brink of our own destruction, Our tensions rise, A human race to the bottom, Ever conscious of time. Open our eyes. Wake us up to a new beginning. Let us feel the hope once more. When the morning comes. Reaching out across the stars, Illuminate and show the way. Extend a hand into the dark. And pull us from the grave. Is this a message, Of hope or peace, A threat or warning, What does it mean? Holding our breath in uncomfortable silence, Wait for the veil to fall. Is this a message, Of hope or peace, A threat or warning, That we should heed? Watching the heavens for an end to the silence, Wait for the veil to fall. Is this a message, Of hope or peace, A threat or warning, What does it mean? Holding our breath in uncomfortable silence, Wait for the sky to fall. Is this a message, Of hope or peace, A threat or warning, Too late to heed? Watching the heavens for an end to the silence, Wait for the sky to fall.

Translation 05:49
Your cities rise from the landscape, But in your greed they'll fall. As daylight dies and the curtain calls, Can't you see the writing on the wall? Expand your mind and see with plural eyes, The future branching out for you. Set your sights, make up your mind, And land with us amongst the stars. A message hailing us across the night sky, From distant systems we can only dream of, Projecting visions from beyond the aether, Show us the world where we survive. Accelerate, Recalculate, Achieve escape from your earthbound trajectory. Accelerate, Recalculate, The path you're on will return you to the earth. A message hailing us across the night sky, From distant systems we can only dream of, Projecting visions from beyond the aether, Show us the world where we survive.

They have given us eyes to see, Like stars around us, each new reality. They have given us eyes to choose, Alter our direction and start anew, Witnessing the transformation, Unfold before me a new humanity. Before us, a chrysalis breaks, Shedding the vestige of our past. Adapt. Transform. Embrace the metamorphosis. A vast multiverse calling out, Presenting infinite possibilities, Crying out for us to choose, Alter our direction and start anew, Witnessing the transformation, Unfolds before us a new humanity. Before us, a chrysalis breaks, Emerge from the wreckage of our past, Advance, Evolve, Embrace the metamorphosis. We are no longer the plague, Creeping all across the Earth, We are survival machines, Casting off this selfish gene. We are no longer the plague, Creeping all across the Earth, We are survival machines, Casting off this selfish gene.

With this secret I am cursed, Destined to take to the grave. To reveal the truth, Would be damning to us all. We rose above ourselves, To overcome our inertia, Underwent a transformation, At the hands of my mistake, A reflection of our own signal, Ever shifts across time and space, Modulation taking place, Caused a change in our transmission. With my mistake I changed the world, For now I'll look to the stars, And hope one day to hear, A reply from the dark. We may never find the answer to the equation, Sifting through the endless night to end our isolation. We may never find the answer to the equation, Sifting through the endless skies when sands of time are fading. We may never find the answer to the equation, Sifting through the endless night to end our isolation. We may never find the answer to the equation, Sifting through the endless skies when sands of time are fading. We may never find the answer to the equation, Sifting through the endless night to end our isolation. We may never find the answer to the equation, Sifting through the endless skies when sands of time are fading.

about

Available now for purchase and streaming on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify, ‘Ear to the Stars’ marks the arrival of a fresh new voice on the progressive music scene. Inspired in equal parts by modern metal and Romantic-era “program music,” George Wilhelm’s ‘Ear to the Stars’ blends the new and the old as it explores terrestrial folly and takes bets on the likelihood of Cosmic deliverance. Combining cutting-edge heavy progressive metal with the timelessness of classic prog, haunting ambiance and playful electronica, this full-length album delivers musical and narrative twists and turns — and reminds us that the search for intelligent life begins at home.

A concept album borne out of my love for Progressive Rock, science, and science-fiction, 'Ear to the Stars' is a journey based around the human race, our wonder, amazement, and curiosity when staring up at the cosmos, our struggle to construct a brighter future, and the fallibility that comes with being human.
